The bird house will have no cages, it is stated, but will be an open room in which the birds may fly about. The new store, which will be a few doors from his present location, will be 22x7;') and finished in ivory iind tile. In the center of the store will be an oval fish pool, 3x6 foot, constructed of beach stones set in concrete. In the conservatory, which will be 14x60 feet And constructed by Hitcliings & Co., the benches will be filled with plants and the sjiace below them used for gold- fish. Mr. Ca])lau has been highly suc- cessful in selling fish and birds as side lines in his flower store. The combina- tion of flowers, fish and birds is a triple alliance that appeals to many customers. LOWE'S FLOWER SHOP. The accompanying cut shows the in- terior of a newly opened flower shop in Long Beach, Cal., which truly repre- sents an easterner's idea of what a flowfi- shop in sunny California must be —a veritable bower of fragrance and beauty. The store depicted is located at 251 American avenue and is owned by H. N. Lowe, of 242 West Ocean avenue. It is operating under the name of Lowe's Flower Shop, and is the second to be opened by this hustling individual. The interior of the store is commo- dious and up-to-date in every respect. The jardinieres, tables, fern boxes and the pedestal for the crystal globe in the center of the room are of the Italian terra-cotta type. The floor of the store is of tile construction and the lighting system is effected by means of the an- tique lanterns. At the back of the store and through the left archway is the wrapping ro
