View to Tweed Bridge and Parish Church, Peebles


Tweed bridge from circa 15th Century. Until 18th Century the only bridge over the river Tweed above Kelso. Rebuilt in 1663 with stone from St Andrews Kirk. Three additional arches added in 1799. Increased in width from 8 feet to 21 feet in 1834 and to 40 feet in 1900. Parish Church 1885-7 by William Young in Scots Gothic style with dominant crown tower.
