Old St Helens Church ,listed ancient monument, tower closed due to vandalism
The Church ruins and Churchyard of Old St Helen's Church, Ore, Hastings a scheduled ancient monument, Grade II listed. It includes the remains of an 11th century nave, 12th century tower and a 13th century chancel. It was partly dismantled in 1869 to provide building materials for the new St Helen's Church on the Ridge. The church was acquired by Sussex Heritage Trust in 1991. A successful Heritage Lottery bid resulted in an archaeological dig and much needed restoration work in 2012. Recently the tower has been closed off, due to vandalism.
