Robertson House, an abandoned old Treloar Hospital building that used to be a nurses home, Alton, Hampshire, England, UK

This site was first used as a hospital to treat soldiers returning from the Boer War and was known as the Princess Louise Hospital. War ended in 1903, but the Royal Army Medical Corps continued to use the services until 1905. In 1907, the then Lord Mayor of the City of London, Sir William Purdie Treloar, set up a ‘Cripples’ Fund’ as his mayoral appeal. His aim was to establish a hospital and school outside the city for children with non-pulmonary tuberculosis. Sir William bought and opened his school and hospital in Alton, Hampshire. It was renamed 'Lord Mayor Treloar’s Cripple’s Home and College Trust' and opened in 1908. He used the site to treat and educate children aged 12 and under who were suffering from tuberculosis of the bones or joints. The hospital was taken over by the NHS in 1948, and closed in 1994. Most of the buildings have since been demolished. This remaining building was once part of the hospital, and was used as a nurses home, but has been empty for decades.
