Vintage portrait photo of boxer Bob Fitzsimmons (1863 - 1917) - World Heavyweight Champion from 1897 to 1899 and the first triple weight world champion in history. Fitzsimmons, whose nicknames included "Ruby Robert" and "The Freckled Wonder", was born in Cornwall, England, but emigrated to New Zealand at a young age and began boxing in around 1880. He subsequently moved to Australia and later to the US and won the World Middleweight Championship in 1891 by beating "Nonpareil" Jack Dempsey. Fitzsimmons relinquished that title in 1895 and captured the world heavyweight crown in 1897 by knocking out champion James J Corbett in Carson City, Nevada, with his famous "solar plexus punch". He lost the title to Jim Jeffries in 1899 and was again defeated by Jeffries in 1902 but in 1903 Fitzsimmons became World Light Heavyweight Champion by beating George Gardner - becoming the first man to win world titles in three different weight divisions.
