The 90 foot stone pyramid was built as a memorial to the 18,000 Confederate soldiers buried at Hollywood cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. The monument was commissioned in 1866 by The Daughters of the Confederacy. The cornerstone contains various artifacts including a lock of Jefferson Davis's hair and a button from Stonewall Jackson's coat.
