To prevent its absorption and actionbeyond the area of operation, the saturated pledget of cotton may be enclosedin a little pocket of rubber tissue having an opening on one side where thecotton is exposed. The lines of incision may be painted with a 10 or 20per cent, solution. Before operating, adrenalin chlorid solution should beapplied to make the effect of the cocain more lasting. For small operationsthe solution need be applied only a few minutes. It is always undesirable to use cocain solution in an atomizer because ofthe uncertainty of the dosage, the large area exposed to absorption, and theuncomfortable sens
