Memantine Alzheimer's drug. Box containing tablets of the Alzheimer's drug memantine hydrochloride, marketed under the name Ebixa. Memantine helps relieve the symptoms of moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease by acting on the glutamatergic system through blocking NMDA-type glutamate receptors in the brain. However, it has been shown to have little effect in mild forms of the disease.
