Eastgate, Lincoln. Lawn over reservoir with vines.

A lawned area of garden covering a World War II emergency water reservoir on Eastgate in Lincoln close to the cathedral. The reservoir was intended to supply water for the fire brigade in case the cathedral was damaged and mains water supplies cut off by enemy bombs. The reservoir was uncovered for many years post war but was covered and grassed over due to health and safety concerns.
