The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple built between 421 and 406 BC on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens. This was an ancient citadel on a rocky outcrop above Athens built around 1500 BC and turned into a temple area mainly in the 5th century BC. Nowadays it is a major attraction in Greece. Die Akropolis von Athen thront auf einem Felsen hoch über der Stadt. Sie war um 1500 v. Chr. eine Festungsanlage, wandelte sich vor allem im fünften Jahrhundert vor Christus in einen Tempel-Bezirk und ist heute die wohl größte Touristen-Attraktion in Griechenland. Eines der wichtigsten Bauwerke dort ist das Erechtheion, ein zwischen 421 und 406 vor Christus erbauter Tempel im ionischen Stil.
