It shows what he had been doing all thatweek, while other boys were gazing at the shopwindows, or admiring the bright uniforms andshining lances of the castle guard. He hadspent his time in the holy house, attending tothe words of the wise ; like the child who lovesto get away by himself with a book. It shows, too, that already he had that habitof attention which is a part of he was interested, he thought of no-thing else. By and by, we shall see him think-ing so deeply that for a long while, even fordays, he forgets to eat. Now he forgets whattime it is, and how his father and motherare starting off for home. All his mind is onthe words of the wise men. That was differ-ent from the ways of James and Joses andthe others. His father and mother could notunderstand it. But he turned about and took the
