Oulton Broad North railway station, East Suffolk, England, The semaphore signal is cleared for the departure of a class 153 diesel unit
Oulton Broad North railway station is on the Wherry Lines in the east of England, and is one of two stations serving Oulton Broad, Suffolk. The station building dates from 1847 and is is managed by Greater Anglia, (2018) which also operates all trains that call. The station is unstaffed. Until 2018/19 the so called 'Wherry Lines' between Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft retained very traditional railway signalling complete with signal boxes, crossing keepers and semaphore signals. The British Rail Class 153 Super Sprinters are single-coach railcars converted from two-coach Class 155 diesel multiple units in the early 1990s. The class was intended for service on rural branch lines where passenger numbers do not justify longer trains, or to boost the capacity on trains with high passenger volume.
