Blue white terminus of Perito Moreno Glacier, towering above narrow water channel, opposite Peninsula Magallenes trees, Andes

Perito Moreno, one of the few glaciers in the world still advancing, reaches the water of Lake Argentino at a narrow point of the Brazo Rico, oppopsite the viewing platforms at Peninsula Magallenes. Every few years, the glacier blocks the Brazo Rico arm of Lake Argentino. The lake level rises, water pressure builds up, the ice dam breaks, the channel re-opens and huge ice-bergs are sent rushing down the Canal de los Tempanos into the main body of Lake Argentino. This most recently occurred in March 2006.
