There is, however, one bulb, or rather tuber, Sauro- mahcm guttatum^ sometimes called Monarch of the East, which does not need any additional moisture for the produc- tion of flowers. It contains not only enough food, but also enough water for that purpose. Placed dry and without soil on a table or a shelf in a room, it is able to flower; but afterwards, as previously stated, it must be planted to enable.
