INDIAN OCEAN (April 14, 2017) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112), left, and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) are underway with the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). The ships are on a scheduled western Pacific deployment with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group as part of the Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of 3rd Fleet. Navy aircraft carrier strike groups have patrolled the Indo-Asia-Pacific regularly and routinely for more than 70 years.
