The north side of Kilkenny Castle in Kilkenny, Ireland. Kilkenny Castle dates to the 1190s when it was built as a Norman fortress and was occupied as recently as 1935. It was donated to the Irish Republic in 1967. It is one of the best known castles in Ireland and represents a blend of its medieval roots and Victorian influences. The north side of the structure best shows off the Victorian modifications to the castle.
