Doctor Marie-Elisabeth Faymonville, anesthesiologist at University Hospital Center of Liege in Belgium performing hypnosis as an alternative to traditional anesthesiology. Since 1992, 4300 people have undergone surgery under hypnosis and a light sedative. This technique reduces the amount of traditional anesthesia by five times and reduces considerably the side effects linked to anesthesia. This method also reduces the associated costs. Dr. Faymonville hypnotizes le patient by evoking a comfortable scene and suggesting visualizations. The doctor uses ambiance music and speaks to the patient for the duration of the operation. Here, Dr. Faymonville invites the patient to wake up. She assures him of the stability of his vital signs by showing him the monitoring screen.
