The following pathetic news paragraph appeared in aNew Orleans paper late in Jan., 1894: Yesterday, whilethe laborers were at work digging the revetment leveeat West End, they found the skeleton of a man betweentwo pickets, and near the skeleton was found a brass but-ton with the initials U. S., on it. The skeleton is sup-posed to be that of one of the United States soldiersbelonging to the Ninth Connecticut Regiment, whichwas stationed at West End when General Butler was incommand of the city.
