Musca autumnalis & Musca domestica are difficult to tell apart. My ID of Musca autumnalis is derived in several ways. Firstly, the orange abdomen & distance between eyes tells me it's male. The 2 species aren't as similar in males. Also, Musca domestica are said to be quite rare in the UK recently. Another factor is that I took the image very close to cattle, which are often known to be covered by Musca autumnalis (Face flies or Autumn houseflies).
