KRETZER Late Secretary of the Staten Island Rapid TransitRailway Company STEPHEN P. KRETZER BORN FEBRUARY 22, 1850 DIED APRIL 23, 1916 STEPHEN p. KRETZER, secretary of the Staten Island RapidTransit Railway Company, died on April 23, after a short Kretzer was educated in private schools and prepared to enterWest Point Military Academy. He decided, however, not to adoptthe profession of arms, and entered the service of the Baltimore andOhio on September 20, 1865, as a rodman and leveler on the Wash-ington County Branch Railroad. In 1868 he was detailed by chiefengineer James L. Randolph to act as deputy surveyor of WashingtonCounty, Maryland, to work up the right-of-way records of the Wash-ington County Branch Railroad. While engaged in that work heassisted General Patterson, chief of the United States Geodetic Sur-vey, in the triangulation of Washington County.
