C. frequently around the best shopping district of late; doubtless the work of selecting the first Christ- mas present for the boy is taking a good deal of his time and consideration. If that were possible, I should say Charles Morton is going faster than ever since becoming sole proprietor of the Los Angeles Flower Market. One day he is in San Francisco, the next he is using that persuasive tongue of his to tempt the Fourth street buyers. "Big business" is the constant cry and Mr. Morton is sure "some ; Tony and his brothers are almost snowed under with holly and fine greens for Christmas, but the demand locally is so good that the new Los Angeles Evergreen^and Cut Flower Supply Mar- ket is likely to be well cleaned out for Christmas. Good business keeps all on. the run here. The two members of the firm of Boyle & Darnaud, of San Diego, were visitors here last week. At Dieterich & Turner's Montebello place there is a magnificent display of ornamental stock in large boxes and Japanese tubs that I am sure could not be duplicated in southern California. In palms there are grand specimens of Kentia Forsteriana, besides splendidly grown Bhapis humilis, Cocos australis and C. plumosa, all fresh, green and in the most robust health. The philoden- drons are magnificent; so are the ficuses, while a large number of Japan- ese box, or Buxus Japonica, must be seen to be realized. This
