A field of the site where the First Battle of Newbury took place in during the English Civil War 1643 in West Berkshire. Some 14,000 soldiers took part, fighting for Royalists on one side, and Parliamentarians on the other. Now farm fields, the scene looks north towards Newbury and Speen in the distance.
