Like nearly all the Virginiasprings they enjoy the advantages of cool mount-ain air and wild scenery. A slatestone cliff, some fifteen feet in height, discharges the wa-ters into small reservoirs. One of the springsis a powerful chalybeate, and contains but asmall quantity of alum. A second containsmore alum, and is a milder chalybeate. Tracesof iron occur in others. The tonic astringentwhich they contain makes them useful in scrof-ulous and eruptive affections. Principal Alum Springs House Capacity, 200. Excursion 327—C 6 or Exc. 310—C 6.
