The Fauld Crater in Staffordshire is the site of the largest explosion in Britain On 27 November 1944 4 000 tons of high explosive bombs stored in former Gypsum mines exploded leaving more than 70 people dead and a huge crater 400 feet deep covering an area of 12 acres
