The Main Window Of Widdecombe Church Known as The Cathedral Of The Moors In Dartmoor, Devon, England
the church of St pancras is known as the cathedral of the moors because of it 120ft tower and size. it was built in the 14th century in the late gothic perpendicular style form local granite. over the next two centuries it was enlarged largely through the profits from tin mining. it was badly damaged in the great thunderstorm of 1638 when lightening struck the church killing 4 worshippers. Dartmoor is a national park in the county of Devon in England. it covers 953 square kilometres or 368 square miles. the uplands are granite based from the carboniferous period of geological history. there are many granite hilltops known as tors which provide wildlife habitat. the highest point is 621 m above sea level and known as high willhays.
