Delineations of Cutaneous Diseases, 1808

Delineations of cutaneous diseases, Strophulus confertus, Strophulus volaticus, and Strophulus candidus. Hand colored engraved plate, taken from, On Cutaneous Diseases, volume 1 by Robert Wilan, 1808. Figure 1. Strophulus confertus, commonly called the rank Red Gum, and also, the Tooth Rash. It is remarkable for the more extensive crop of papula, which are smaller, and more crowded, than in the other species. It spreads along the forearm, cheeks, and forehead. Figure 2. Strophulus volaticus or Feu volage, a less common eruption, which is distinguished by its small circular clusters of papules, each patch containing from three to ten, which as well as the interstices between them, are of a high red color. They rapidly appear in succession, turn brown, and exfoliate. Figure 3. Strophulus candidus, differing from the preceding in the larger size of the papula, which are smooth and shining, and without any surrounding redness, and stand at a considerable distance from each other.
