View SSW of pier bases & walls of the ruined nave of Abbey Cwmhir Cistercian monastery, Radnorshire, Wales, UK, founded in 1176 & dissolved in 1536. The abbey was originally founded at Ty Faenor (Radnorshire) in 1143, then refounded here for 60 monks. In its day, the nave of 14 bays was the largest monastic church in Wales. To the rear of the ruined wall is Cae Fan Domen, a natural mound possibly enlarged & used as a folly - an artificial motte castle, a sham motte - in the C18th or C19th.
