Artificial gecko feet adhesive. Close up view showing the surface of a material that uses a similar structure to that of a gecko's foot. Gecko feet contain around 14,000 hair-like setae per square milimetre. Each setae is tipped with between 100 and 1000 spatulae. These structures bond with surfaces at the molecular level using Van Der Waals' forces producing a very strong adhesive effect. The artificial gecko foot material contains 29,000 microscopic gripping elements per square centimetre. The fabric is able to bond to any wet or dry surface.
