Editorial use only Reconstructed Australopithecus afarensis head. This is a reconstruction of the head of a 3 year old Australopithecus afarensis female made from a fossilised skull known as Selam. The skull and other bones were found in Dikika, Ethiopa in 2000. They have been dated as million years old. A. afarensis lived between and million years ago and is thought to be an ancestor of modern humans. Photographed at The Ethiopian National Museum, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
