Some striking incidents in the his-tory of Naples may be gathered froma slight examination of its postagestamps, In 1857 were issued thosetruly singular stamps, having for thedevice the Bourbon arms, and all ofwhich are printed in one color, lake;(we append an engraving of the 2grani stamp of this emission). Thesestamps were in circulation until 1860,. when King Francis II being dethron-ed, a Provisional Government wasestablished, and in the October ofthat year a new stamp was issued,being the \ grana of the series justmentioned with the value altered, bya process known to engravers, to \tornese, and printed in Hue. In theNovember following, this stamp wasagain altered. In that the device of THE STAMP-COLLECTORS REVIEW. 69 the Bourbon arms was supplanted bya Savoy cross, the color still remain-ing the same. This alteration indesign of -| tornese stamp, will, tomany of us, recall vivid recollectionsof the successful part played in theNeapolitan Revolution by VictorEmanuel of Savoys race, andGaribaldi the Hero of Italy. Af-fairs in the Neapolitan provinceshaving assumed a little more of theirwonted aspect, there appeared in1861 a new series of stamps, bearingthe head of the King of Italy inwhite relief, and, with the exceptionof one stamp of the value of ^ tornese,all retaining the grani last-described emission clearlyin
