Eel Pie island (formerly Twickenham Ait) is a private Island on the Thames river at Twickenham. It is home to about 26 artists' studios that are stuated in and around a working boatyard The studios open to the public twice a year. The island can only be reached by a pedestrian footbridge or by boat. There are about 50 homes, boatyards and a nature reserve on the island. The island was a major venue for rythm and blues in the sixties. Many legendary musicians performed at the hotel on the island. Musicians included Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, Peter Townsend and The Who, Charlie Watts, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Cyril Davies and Rod Stewart.
