OAUESCHE, Julius Peter, soldier, b. in Cubain 1821; d. near Stone River, Tenn., 31 Dec, was graduated at the U. S. military academyin 1841, and entered the army as 2d lieutenant ofthe 4th artillery. From 1841 till 1840 he served onfrontier and garrison duty, and afterward with dis-tinction in the Mexican war. He was appointedassistant adjutant-general in 1855. At the begin-ning of the civil war he applied for active service,and was appointed chief of staff to Gen. WilliamS. Rosecrans,
