Also known as the Red Capped Mangabeys due to the red fur on the top of their head and a white collar. The rest of the body is black with a dark face and white eyelids. Cherry Crowned Mangabeys live in large groups of up to 25 individuals. Within these groups there is usually only one male and a hierarchy amongst the females. The males are larger than the females and leave the group when they reach maturity. Cherry Crowned Mangabeys have a throat sac which they use to make loud calls that can be heard over long distances. They come down to the ground to feed. Cherry Crowned Mangabeys are not currently threatened. However the deforestation of their natural habitat could change this in the near future. They are also hunted as part of the bushmeat trade.
