Thomas Williamson made few engravings fromMorlands pictures during the artists lifetime, buthe was frequently employed upon them in the twoyears following Morlands death, and is credited withfourteen clever etchings and aquatints from his was famous for the extraordinary finenessand delicacy of the engraving he could produce, buthis skill in this direction did not find scope in dealing 230 THE DOOR OF A VILLAGE INN (Size of original pictiire 39 x 49J inches.). His Life and Works with the bold, broad handling of Morland. Neverthelessseveral of his engravings are very fine. Of his personalhistory nothing appears to be known. John Young, born in 1755, engraved at least half-a-dozen of Morlands works in mezzotint. He wasamong the best craftsmen of his day, and was appointedengraver to the Prince of Wales in 1789. Young waskeeper of the British Institution from 18 13 to 1825,and one of the promoters of the Artists BenevolentFund. He died in 1825. John Scott, born 1774, one of the most able en-gravers both in line and mezzotint of his time, executedat least two plates from Morlands works. Havingregard to the remarkable skill displayed by Scott inreproducing pictures of animal life, it is somewhatcurious that his name does not more frequently occur.
