He served in garrison and on frontierduty until 1845, when he participated in the militaryoccupation of Texas and the war with Mexico, beingengaged in the battles of Palo Alto, Resaca de la Palma,Monterey, siege of Vera Cruz, battle of Cerro Gordo,skirmish at Ocalaca, battles of Contreras and Churu-busco, where he was severely wounded.
