DuBridge directed the MIT radar laboratory (1940-1945) and was President of the California Institute of Technology (1946- 1969). He researched the photoelectric effect in the 1920s and nuclear physics in the 1930s, including the building of the Rochester cyclotron. After the war, he continued as an administrator, leading CalTech for 23 years. He was advisor to several US governments and helped to create the National Science Foundation.
