Daftmill Distillery was granted its Distillery Licence on St. Andrews Day 2005, with the first production run taking place on 16 December 2005. Since then, the distillery has been building its stock of whisky which is stored in bourbon casks on the farm. To be sold as Scotch Whisky, it must be at least three years old. No Daftmill Whisky has been sold yet, although the first bottling may go ahead in 2018. The name Daftmill comes from the local topography as the stream (sometimes called the Daft Burn) appears to run uphill
