Proboscis fully developed ; palpi obliquely upturned, fringed with long hair in front; frons with large corneous prominence with raised rim and central process hollowed out in front; eyes large, rounded ; antenna; of male bipecti- nate or with small laminate serrations ; head and thorax clothed with long rough hair only, the vertex of head with crest of hair, siioulders with crests pro- and metathorax with double crests, patagia with curled-up tufts at extremity ; pectus and tibia^ clothed with long hair ; fore tibia with curved claw on inner side at extremity ; abdomen with some rough hair at base, large crest ou 2nd segment typically present, and lateral fringes of hair. Fore wing with the costa somewhat concave, the ternien evenly curved ; veins 3 and 5 from near angle of cell; 6 from upper angle ; 9 from 10 anastomosing with 8 to form the areole, or abnormally 9 and 10 anastomosing with 8; 11 from cell. Hind wing with veins 3, 4 from angle of cell; 5 obsolescent from middle of discocellulars; 6, 7 from upper angle; 8 anastomosing with the cell near base only. Sect. I.
