Selling agencies re- ported the biggest September on record and October is promising to produce about the same amount of business. Fortunately, ears have been reasonably plentiful and shipment has been heavy enough to satisfy about all the demand. In the matter of smokeless coal, the mine run price is somewhat variable. On single car lots orders are occasion- ally picked up at $; about the best price on the five to eight car lot is $, while it would be rather difficult to sell anything over ten cars for more than circular price of $ The move- ment is steady and those who have con- tracted for coal are taking it. Franklin county producers have put out a new circular price of $ and are adhering to it. There has been no let-up in buying as a result. The Car- terville operators are enjoying big busi- ness. Few of them have tried to get anything above $2 a ton. The price of screenings has been moving up just a little. Every change for the better has been resisted by the big consumers. For screenings, any- where from 45 to 55 cents for the lower grades and from 70 to 75 cents for the higher grades is being asked.
