By Edward Payson Van Duzee. In its general facies this family is widely distinct from those that precede it. The head is usually large, sometimes produced anteriorly into more or less of a rostrum; the vertex, front and often the clypeus is furnished with three carinae; the pronotum is commonly narrow and often strongly angled, forming a mere collar to the front of the mesonotum, and is usually tricarinate, the lateral carinae frequently curving around behind the eyes.
