. Elementary text-book of zoology. Zoology. CHILOGNATHA INSECTA. 5'2l segment of the body, at some distance from the genital openings. In (rlomeris, this copulatory organ seems to be replaced by two accessory pairs of appendages on the anal segment. The young possess at first only three pairs of legs, and the metamorphosis would therefore seem to be more complete than in the Chilopods. The Chilognatha live in damp places, beneath stones on the ground, and feed on vegetable and dead animal matters. Many of them roll themselves up into a, ball like the woodlice or into a spiral. Fam. Polyzonidae
