Symbiodinium sp. from P. flosculifera and S. microadriaticum lacked this three-layered structure, the entire cell wall being similar in consistency to the IL layer of S. bermudense. A typical multilayered symbiosome membrane could be seen around the symbionts of all three host animals, but was most prevalent around S. bermudense (Figs. 1, 2, 4).
