Microfluidic chip. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a microfluidic microchip, a type of microelectromechanical system (MEMS). This silicon chip may be used for carrying out chemical reactions, processing drugs or analysing DNA. The chambers are connected by thin microchannels. MEMS include tiny robots (nanorobots), as well as miniature laboratories (\labs on a chip\") which can be used in sensors and diagnostic devices. In addition to their microscopic size, MEMS are lightweight and can be made cheaply. This chip was made by the Cepheid Corporation, California, USA. Magnification: x56 at 6x7 cm size. x95 at 4x5 inch size."
