Photo of physicist and chemist Marie Curie (1867 - 1934). Polish-born Curie, who became a French citizen, was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity, the first person to win two Nobel Prizes (Physics 1903 and Chemistry 1911) and discovered two new elements - polonium and radium. The photo, by Bain News Service, was taken in 1921 when Curie arrived in New York for a fund-raising tour of the United States.
