A silver-mounted shamshir, Ottoman, dated 1819. A single-edged blade of Sham (stripy damask) with fullers on both sides. Engraved silver quillons and grip mounting. Riveted, rhinoceros horn grip scales. With a wooden scabbard covered with tooled shagreen leather and sewn with silver wire. The suspension rings and floral embossed silver furniture are each stamped with tugra. The owner's inscription and date "1243" (= 1819) is stamped on the chape. Beautiful, complete piece.
