Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Fine silica (glass) reticulite pumice formed from molten lava. Molten lava containing high amounts of gas rapidly cool to form this very light-weight pumice. Pieces of reticulite can be carried in the wind. The lava from Hawaii's active volcano contains over 60% silica (glass). Magnification: x16 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
