Bauxite aluminium ore. Bauxite, which consists largely of several aluminium hydroxide minerals, is the most commonly mined aluminium ore. A sedimentary rock, bauxite is formed when an original sediment undergoes chemical weathering, usually in a tropical climate. This sample measures 90 millimetres across.
