Charles Friedel (1832–1899), French chemist and mineralogist. Along with James Crafts, Friedel is best known for developing the Friedel-Crafts reaction in 1876, a method for synthesising ketones or hydrocarbons from aromatic hydrocarbons. He also discovered secondary propyl alcohol in 1862, and was a professor of mineralogy and chemistry.
