Vera Mary Brittain, Lady Catlin (29 December 1893 – 29 March 1970) was an English writer, feminist, and pacifist. Her best-selling 1933 memoir Testament of Youth recounted her experiences during the First World War and the beginning of her journey towards pacifism. Winifred Holtby (23 June 1898 – 29 September 1935) was an English novelist and journalist, best known for her novel South Riding.
