Protesters from the Aylesbury estate, next door to Heygate, are fighting Southwark Council who they are attempting to empty and demolish the esate, despite residents demands to stay there. The Conservative housing minister recently rejected the Labour council's compulsory purchase order for some Aylesbury estate leaseholders as a breach of their human rights. as a similar act of 'social cleansing', replacing social housing by properties for the wealthy and overseas investors.
